Who Can Carry It Out?

A DSEAR Assessment should be carried out by a competent person with the necessary knowledge, skills, and experience to identify and evaluate the risks associated with dangerous substances. This could be an internal health and safety professional or an external consultant with expertise in DSEAR.

The process:

  • Identify Dangerous Substances: Determine which substances in the workplace are classified as dangerous.
  • Assess Risks: Evaluate the potential risks these substances pose, considering factors like quantity, usage, and storage conditions.
  • Implement Control Measures: Put in place measures to eliminate or reduce the risks, such as proper storage, ventilation, and use of protective equipment.
  • Prepare Emergency Plans: Develop procedures to deal with accidents, incidents, and emergencies involving dangerous substances.
  • Inform and Train Employees: Ensure that employees are aware of the risks and trained in the necessary safety procedures.
