FireQual Level 4 Certificate in Intermediate Fire Risk Assessment

Who is this qualification suitable for?
This qualification is designed for candidates who are developing their competence as Fire Risk Assessors and are undertaking or progressing to Intermediate-level practice. It is suitable for:
- Candidates who have already achieved the FireQual Level 3 Certificate in Foundation Fire Risk Assessment or equivalent.
- Practising Fire Risk Assessors seeking recognition of competence at an intermediate level.
- Fire safety practitioners and consultants working on behalf of Responsible Persons (RPs) or Duty Holders (DHs) in moderate-risk premises.
- Professionals in facilities management, building safety, or enforcement roles who need to demonstrate competence in carrying out Fire Risk Assessments for buildings or premises of moderate risk.
What does the qualification cover?
On completion, candidates will be able to competently carry out Fire Risk Assessments in buildings and premises categorised as moderate risk.
You will gain the skills and knowledge to:
- Apply fire safety principles when analysing information to undertake FRAs in moderate-risk buildings.
- Interpret and apply relevant fire safety legislation, standards, and codes of practice.
- Evaluate fire safety measures and their limitations in mitigating fire development, growth, and spread.
- Understand how building design, construction, and maintenance influence fire safety outcomes.
- Assess and provide recommendations regarding fire safety management systems in moderate-risk buildings.
Entry Requirements
Normally candidates will have completed the FireQual Level 3 Certificate in Foundation Fire Risk Assessment or equivalent. Alternatively, candidates may evidence competence through prior experience (APEL/RPL) in undertaking FRAs in moderate-risk premises.
Progression Routes
Successful completion provides progression to:
- The FireQual Level 5 Certificate in Advanced Fire Risk Assessment (RQF).
- Senior fire risk assessment roles, consultancy, or specialist practice.
- Broader fire safety compliance and advisory positions.
- Alignment with professional recognition frameworks for fire risk assessors.
How do I achieve this qualification?
Classroom – 5 days attendance in classroom setting followed by approximately 3-4 months ePortfolio, which is assessed and supported by a named assessor.
Course Duration
Delivered over 5 days in classroom setting and then 3–4 months ePortfolio through IHTC.
